3rd Street Light Rail Program

San Francisco, California
Program spanned the distance of 7.0 miles –divided among nine (9) separate segments or contracts– along San Francisco’s Third (3rd) Street.  The primary goal of this ambitious project was to improve overall transit services and provide a fresh distinctive “look” to the commercial corridor and communities as part of MUNI’s scheme to transform 3rd Street into one of the City’s ‘Great Streets’.  Mitchell Engineering (and its joint venture partner) was contracted for five of the nine (contracts) segments.

Segment B

Project consisted of the installation of 1.8 miles of double-track mass transit light rail and special track, including associated overhead electrical contact power systems in San Francisco from 4th Street & King Street to 3rd Street & 22nd Street.
Contract Amount: $26 million (all inclusive)

3rd STREET LIGHT RAIL - SEGMENT C

Segment C

Project consisted of the installation of 1.4 miles of double-track mass transit light rail including associated overhead electrical contact power systems, special track, and the complete structural retrofit, including rail crossing and bridge joint interlocking of an existing double-leaf bascule bridge in San Francisco along 3rd Street between 22nd Street and Jerrold Avenue.
Contract Amount: $55 million (all inclusive)

Segment D

Project consisted of the installation of 1.0 miles of double-track mass transit light rail and special track, including overhead electrical contact power systems in San Francisco along 3rd Street between Jerrold Avenue and Donner Avenue in the Bayview commercial district.
Contract Amount:  $38 million (all inclusive)

Ocean Avenue Reconstruction and Improvement

Project spanned the distance of 1.7 miles along San Francisco’s Ocean Avenue.  The primary goal of this ambitious project was to improve overall transit services and provide a fresh distinctive “look” to the commercial corridor and community along Ocean Avenue.
