Highway 50 Placerville Operational Improvements

Placerville, California
Contract to improve traffic flow on Highway 50 through the City of Placerville which entailed the relocation of a major portion of the existing city sewer system.  Work required the installation of 2,000 feet of 24” diameter pipe including numerous manholes in extremely hard rock soil conditions.

Bradshaw Interceptor 6B

The Interceptor Work consisted of installing approximately 8,662 feet of 108″ diameter interceptor, 493 feet of 90″ diameter interceptor, 2,631 feet of 84″ diameter interceptor, two concrete structures, 18 manholes, three flowmeters, and appurtenances.  Approximately 384 feet of 108″ pipe were installed by tunneling and 8,278 feet were installed in open-cut excavations.

Arden Parallel Force Main

Sacramento, California
Construction of a force main pipeline along the American River starting from the Arden Pumping Station to a point near the Fairbairn Water Treatment Plant.  The Project includes approximately 10,400 feet of 60″ diameter pipe, two connection vault structures, two jacking and one receiving shaft vaults, three hot-taps of 60″ force main and 36″ bypass piping at two locations, four access manways, two air release/vacuum valve vaults, two open cut crossings of the American River Levee, two 60″ tunneled crossings of the American River, and three augured access shafts for tunneling.

Raw Water Facilities (at Woodward Reservoir)

The project is an initial constructed element that feeds water to the South County Water Treatment Plant. Scope included the construction of: a) A fish screened intake manifold, b) 3 miles of new 72” mortar coated and lined steel pipeline through an encased penetration in a earth-filled dam to a new (nic) Water Treatment Plant; c) A Water Quality Wall consisting of 186 each 8′ x 14′ x 8″ precast panels supported by galvanized wide flange columns (78 each) founded in 15’ deep drilled concrete piers; d) 2000’ of 66” diameter low water bypass pipeline extending from the 72″ pipeline’s dam penetration to the existing reservoir powerhouse; and e) Installation of a new 108” hydraulically controlled sluice gate.

3rd STREET

3rd Street Light Rail/Surface Street Reconstruction Program

Program spanned the distance of 7.0 miles –divided among nine (9) separate segments or contracts– along San Francisco’s Third (3rd) Street.  The primary goal of this ambitious project was to improve overall transit services and provide a fresh distinctive “look” to the commercial corridor and communities as part of MUNI’s scheme to transform 3rd Street into one of the City’s ‘Great Streets’.  Mitchell Engineering (and its joint venture partner) was contracted for five of the nine (contracts) segments.

Project consisted of the installation of 1.4 miles of double-track mass transit light rail including associated overhead electrical contact power systems, special track, and the complete structural retrofit, including rail crossing and bridge joint interlocking of an existing double-leaf bascule bridge in San Francisco along 3rd Street between 22nd Street and Jerrold Avenue.
Contract Amount: $55 million (all inclusive)
